Tips on Bathing a Baby
baby
One of the most exciting things for my little daughter is taking bath. She was born in the month of March. She likes getting undressed and she enjoys taking bath. Bath time was always a great time for both of us. This is the time when I can actually sing, talk and play with her. At times she doesn’t want to get out of the tub; she would just want to be in the bath tub and play for long. She loves playing with water and likes when water flows through her finger and when water makes a sound as she slaps on it. For me and my baby bath time is one of the favorite part of the day.
Bath time is indeed one of the best periods for any baby and mother. It is important that you prepare well before you bathe your baby.
One important thing to do is to gather all the bathing materials mention below.
- A soft, clean washcloth
- Mild, unscented baby soap and shampoo
- A soft brush to stimulate the baby’s scalp
- Towels
- An infant tub with 2 to 3 inches of luke warm water (to test the water temperature, feel the water with the inside of your elbow or, wrist).
- A clean diaper
- Clean clothes
- A warm room
- Changing mat
- Toys (plastic ducks etc.)
How to bathe your baby:
- The very first thing I do is that I undress my baby and give her a good massage with oil (preferably almond oil), at least 10 to 15 minutes before giving her a bath and then I wrap her with a wash cloth.
- After 15 minutes, place her in the water immediately.
- Till the time your baby is not able to sit without any support you need to ensure that you support your baby’s head with one of your hand and with the other hand pour water onto her body.
- Lower your baby up to the chest into the tub slowly.
- Wash the baby’s body first with water and a small amount of soap. (Ensure that you wash the baby’s body first before her hair, as washing the hair first could cause cold to your baby).
- Pour water gently throughout the duration of the bath.
- Massage your baby’s scalp with the pads of your fingers or, a soft baby hairbrush.
- You can use a baby shampoo if desired. Apply the shampoo or, soap gently on her hair and while doing so ensure that you protect your baby’s eyes and ears.
- Be certain that the temperature of water is not too hot before rinsing. Use a washcloth and wash her face gently.
- Wrap your baby in a towel immediately and make sure to dry gently behind the ears and in the skin folds, so that no excess moisture is left there.
- Cover her head and then dress your baby. Baby towels with hoods are great for keeping a freshly washed baby warm.
