Teaching Babies to Read – Developing a Routine
baby
In order to be successful with a reading program for your baby, it is important to be consistent. When teaching your baby to read, consistency is king. When we set out to do anything in life, it is important to be organized. Unless we have a plan, we can plan to fail. This is very true in regards to teaching your baby to read. Before getting started on a program, you must take some time to plan ahead and organize your materials.
You can switch out your materials each week, so you know when you started. I like to bring out new materials on Sundays and view them all week. This is an easy way to keep track of what we are doing and when we started.
If you are only able to show your baby materials once a day, do not despair. You are still creating brain connections and teaching your baby to read. You need to have realistic expectations as to how much you can do in a day.
You should not put pressure on yourself to perform a certain number of sets a day. These are all just guidelines.
If you incorporate the games into your baby’s day, you are not necessarily counting these as sessions; you are just playfully introducing words to your baby. If you are able to show your baby flash cards or books once or twice a day and you are able to point out words, and play with letters a bit, that is more than enough. Anything you do will benefit your baby.
