Newborn babies are very delicate and sensitive, which is why even if there’s a very strong urge to just dress up the baby, it should be done properly. Buying newborn baby clothes is very important, because the clothes will be the items that will mostly be in contact with a baby’s skin. And if the wrong clothes are chosen, it can be very disastrous.

Remember that not all baby clothes are made of the same materials. Clothes made of the wrong materials can cause a range of side-effects ranging from the simple, like skin irritations, to the severe, like allergic reactions. This is why it’s important to check the following things in order to make sure that the baby’s safety is ensured.

The first things that need to be checked are the fabric that the clothes are made of, and the dye used to color them. Look for fabrics that are not only hypo-allergenic, but are also comfortable, like cotton. In addition to this, ask the manufacturer or seller if the dyes used to color the clothes don’t run off on the baby’s skin, and if they are non-toxic.

Next things that need to be checked are clothing tags, because clothing tags can end up being irritating, not to mention, made up of a different fabric or material than the clothes. An improperly placed clothing tag, or one that is made of a fabric that is not hypo-allergenic, may cause discomfort to the baby. To fix this, tags can be removed, but not just by cutting them off, but rather, by separating the tag at the seams, removing the whole tag and making sure no piece is left behind.

Clothes with zippers also have to be checked, and they should have zipper guards. These are flaps that separate the zipper from the skin, avoiding any accidental contact which may cause pain and even bleeding. Buttons also have to be checked, as buttons can’t be too small, easily removable, or near the face, to avoid accidental swallowing.
