How Parents Can Practice Proper Skin Care

Many parents assume that they do not need to do anything to keep their baby’s skin clean and healthy. These parents seem to assume that a baby has an easier time of fighting off acne and other conditions than an adult does. After all, babies have lots of time before puberty hormones set in and they have to worry about acne or other problems. The truth is that it does take some special care to keep your baby’s skin clean and healthy.
Babies are more likely to develop rashes and a variety of other problems with the skin that can be avoided with the right knowledge. Sooner or later, you are going to have to confront the odd rash or cluster of bumps that your baby will be inflicted with, more often than not, it is something that will disappear after a simple treatment. What you do need to do is learn how to identify these “breakouts” and take the appropriate action so they no leave marks or turn into something more serious. You can give your baby beautiful, luminous skin just by diligently treating any condition that you see and you will notice that as your baby grows into a toddler and then into an adolescent, and older, that your efforts paid off. Before allowing your baby to wear new clothes, play with new toys or use new bedding or towels, wash these items in a gentle and hypoallergenic detergent. This wash cycle is important because it rids the items of things that might harm or irritate your son or daughter’s skin. This is one of things we continue to do as adults to make sure we protect our skin. Don’t you usually wash new cloth-based purchases before you wash or use them?
Whether or not you are ready to believe it, newborns don’t need to be bathed every night. This is because most new babies don’t get very dirty. This is because they are mostly immobile and depend on their parents to get them from point A to point B. Their immobility makes it hard for them to get into things that a parent couldn’t easily keep them out of. Baths only need to be given two or three times each week if you keep your newborn son or daughter’s face clean. Once they become mobile, however, daily baths are important. You want to wash your baby’s clothing, new toys and bedding in gentle detergent that is hypoallergenic. The wash will help get rid of things that could irritate your baby’s skin. This practice is one most adults keep throughout their lives. Think about it for a second: when was the last time you wore a new shirt without washing it first?
Covering your baby’s head with a hat and shading the two of you with an umbrella are extra precautions you can take. If your baby does get a sunburn help him feel better by applying a cool damp cloth for between ten and fifteen minutes two or three times a day.
Baby skin care takes many forms. Honestly, though, caring for your baby’s skin doesn’t need to be very hard. As long as you choose the correct products and make practical decisions keeping your baby’s skin clean and clear should be relatively easy. Don’t forget that you need to keep all of the skin on your baby’s body healthy and clean–the face is just one small part of his body! Caring for your baby’s skin will depend on your making a lot of smart decisions all day long, but don’t freak out! Before you know it, you’ll be taking care of your baby’s skin without even thinking about it much at all! Before you know it you won’t even need to focus on it to keep your baby’s skin healthy. It will be a habit!
