Love this! I went to high school in Dallas in the 70s-we had the big,obnoxious mums then. They always itched my face-very uncomfortable. I was surprised when my oldest started high school,in Tennessee, and there was not a mum in site. I just assumed it was a national tradition. Nice not to have to go through the expense and trauma/drama of the Homecoming mum!
i never got a mum cause i was too poor…i think i have psychological damage cause now im a florist in Katy,tx and make them year round! Baby shower mums, birthday mums ect.! lol
I was always the girl that had the biggest mum. =) mine had lights and cowbells. I love Texas Tradition. -3
I go to AHS, and it truly does happen like this… the cowbells are freaking ANNOYING when you hear 1,500 of them going down the hallways between classes.
I live in Allen… and it really does go down like that! haha but she forgot about garters. Those are the guy version of mums that go their arm
Its really is like that in Texas but if she did a little more research she would have found that girls, parents, friends ect also buy or make one for their boy friends. Its smaller and is worn on the arm. In the last 10 years or so, this homecoming tradition has filtered down to even the middle schools. I had to laugh when she talked about the ribbon that holds them around thier neck; I have seen some girls require ROPE to hang it around their neck. Some also incorporate flashing lights!
Oh and guys wear them too. On their arms.
In Junior High I was a cheerleader so I had 2. One was a garder thing that goes on your leg and another that was just a single one but it was sooo long.
