Do You Know These Facts About Babies?

You already know that babies are cute and fun to snuggle. They wear adorable and funny looking clothing. There is no other stage of life when a person can wear loudly patterned clothing without having to deal with snide comments. Most people think that being a baby is pretty easy. They think that babies come out of the womb as fully formed humans but without the ability to express themselves properly. The truth is that babies are complex little creatures with their own sets of needs and abilities. Here is some (hopefully) new information about babies.
Light is an early sensitivity for babies-it starts happening in utero. The eyes are complicated devices that are made up of millions of nerves and fibers. You would be surprised by just how much coordination is needed for your eyes to work properly. Babies have functioning eyes by just a few months after they are conceived. Even as early as six months after conception your baby will show signs of light sensitivity. Another amazing “eye fact” about babies: most Caucasian babies are born with blue eyes but will “settle in” to their permanent eye color by the time they are a few months old. If you are Caucasian your baby’s eyes will probably be blue and then change later. So don’t get excited if your baby has blue eyes at birth. Your baby might have different colored eyes before too long!
Most babies have the ability to recognize different types of music before they are born. As early as six weeks before birth, infants can recognize songs. This means that the baby spends more than a month in the womb being able to identify different types of music! Some women say that they will sometimes feel their babies moving to the rhythm of some music. So music appreciation really does happen “even before you were born”! Isn’t that amazing?
Did you know that at one point your baby had a tail? That is no lie! Your baby’s tail starts to form at the same time that the other organs like the brain and the heart and the lungs begin to develop.
As your baby grows inside of you the rest of his body develops and the tail usually ends up disappearing-it sort of blends in to the rest of the body as it grows. The process is sort of like the way a tadpole’s tail gets swallowed up by the body of the frog. Unfortunately, not everyone’s body will absorb the tail completely and some babies are born with short tails still sticking out. From here the parents can choose whether to have the tail removed or to hope that it disappears over time.
