Have you started doing outdoor activities with your new baby that’s both stimulating and fun, doesn’t break the bank and gets both you and your baby out socialising, having fun and spending quality time together, without having to worry about domestic household duties? Remember, they are only little for a short period of time, so start building some memorable memories now.

Here are 5 fun tips to help get you started:

1. Start singing to your baby: All babies love music and love it when they are played or sung to. From around three months, they will respond well to action nursery rhymes and if you aren’t one for singing or remembering nursery rhymes, you can find a singsong group in your area. Your baby will also love the energy of the group as well, and as they get older, will probably join in with a musical instrument, if encouraged.

2. Visit your local library: No, not to get a book out, but actually for the social aspect. There are loads of libraries that now offer baby friendly activities, from toy sharing schemes to baby bounces and best of all, they offer storytelling sessions that both you and your baby will love.

3. Get wet: Start by visiting your local swimming pool (make sure it has a separate, warmer toddler pool). A child of any age will love floating around in your arms, and for those that are eight to nine months old, who aren’t mobile yet, will love bouncing around in the water, and its also a great way for them to splash off that extra energy.

4. Visit your local playground: As soon as your baby is sitting, you can start them in the swings. Once they are a bit older, you can help them get used to the slides (first by you holding them, then with you waiting to catch them at the bottom). Mornings and late afternoons are normally the best times, as it’s not too hot, and if you have bigger kids, they will either be at nursery or school. This is also a great time for your baby to socialise with other children at the park.

5. Blow bubbles: Who hasn’t had great joy from blowing bubbles, no matter what your age? It’s the biggest fun you can have with your baby for the least amount of parental energy. Blow bubbles for them to poke and pop and then later, you can help them blow, too. Guaranteed giggles and fun right through to adult hood.
